Rootstown Township has recently acquired an 18-acre parcel of land adjacent to the North end of the Rootstown woods. This acquisition along with the woodlot at Gracie Field brings our total recreation and parkland to 29 acres!

The township residents now have the opportunity to enjoy this landscape for nature walks, picnics, family gatherings, organized sports or whatever is your pleasure.

Since the township does not own the baseball fields at Gracie Field, the Trustees would like to make some area available to the community for organized sports activities.

The aerial view below gives a preliminary, conceptual view of what we might do with our new parkland.

Due to tight budgets these days, development of this land can only come with your participation - We need your input and help!

What To Do!

Do you have ideas about what features to include in our park? How about a picnic pavilion, walking trail or garden?

The following is a list of some things that we community members might do to develop a park/recreation area.

  • Can you help survey and layout the land?

  • Might your company volunteer to do some grading and excavating?

  • Would your club design and draw up a garden layout?

  • Do you know of a nursery that would donate trees, flowers or shrubbery for the garden?

  • Would you help plant the garden?

  • Can you make some signs?

  • Does your Scout troop or 4-H club need a community project?

  • Could you draw up plans for a picnic pavilion?

  • Would you donate building materials for a pavilion?

  • Financial contributions are always welcome!
Please contact one of the Trustees with your ideas and suggestions.
