MINUTES OF THE ROOTSTOWN TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
January 26, 2010

The regular meeting of the Rootstown Township Trustees opened at 5:30 p.m. on January 26, 2010. Those in attendance were Trustees Bonnie Howe and Brett Housley, JoAnn Townend, Fiscal Officer, Darrell Stephens, Van Black, and Julie Gonzales.

Resolution No. 2010-021 – Motion was made by Brett Housley and seconded by Bonnie Howe to accept the minutes of January 12, 2010. Upon roll call the vote as follows: Diane Dillon, absent, Bonnie Howe, yea, Brett Housley, yea.

ROAD SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

The road crew trimmed the tree on Mary Ann Greer’s property (corner of Bower and Kline Roads) for safety reasons. If the tree dies they will remove it.

Darrell report the salt has been shipped.

Bonnie reported a crack in the bridge on Rootstown Road. Darrell said it looks fine.

Darrell received specifications for a new truck. He believes we should purchase a smaller truck, such as an F-550 and not keep it as long. The current trade-in value of his truck is $6,000.00.

Darrell is in the process of getting quotes for replacing the mower on the road-side mower.

There were two (2) funerals since the last meeting.

The road crew is still in the process of fixing the sign at the park.

Darrell suggested paving the streets in Homeland Cemetery. It gets very costly to put stone down every year. He will get quotes.

Resolution No. 2010-022 – Motion was made by Bonnie Howe and seconded by Brett Housley to authorize Julie Gonzales to update the old cemetery records in the computer. The Board agreed that Bill Hahn could input current burials. Upon roll call the vote as follows: Diane Dillon, absent, Bonnie Howe, yea, Brett Housley, yea.

Bonnie received a letter from Ohio Department of Transportation regarding two (2) bridges that will be closed for approximately 200 days. Darrell suggested giving a copy of the letter to the Fire Station and Rootstown Schools.

Darrell received a call from a resident on Rootstown Road who lives at the big hill closest to Tallmadge Road. When her children get on and off the school bus it stops on the hill; cars coming over the hill cannot see the bus. The children have almost gotten hit. Darrell has posted signs and contacted Matt at the Rootstown School Garage. The Board asked Julie to send a letter to Matt suggesting the school bus stop towards the top of the hill so oncoming cars can see the bus.

NEW BUSINESS

Resolution No. 2010-023 – Motion was made by Bonnie Howe and seconded by Brett Housley to authorize payment to the Rootstown Chamber of Commerce for the 2010 annual membership dues in an amount not to exceed $50.00. Upon roll call the vote as follows: Diane Dillon, absent, Bonnie Howe, yea, Brett Housley, yea.

Bonnie received a call from Dave McIntyre from the Hot Stove suggesting we change to wireless from hardline internet connection. Mr. McIntyre said it would be beneficial if they could have internet connection when they have meetings at the Townhall. Bonnie spoke to Diane and she is not if favor of changing. The Board agreed to keep their current internet connection.

The Water Company is requesting applications for new members on their board. The deadline to apply is February 14th.

ZONING INSPECTOR REPORT

Van reported that it has been very slow. There was one (1) act of business.

Brett scheduled interviews with applicants for the Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals on February 2nd beginning at 6:00 PM.

Resolution No. 2010-024 - Motion by Bonnie Howe and seconded by Brett Housley to pay bills on file with the Fiscal Officer. Upon roll call the vote as follows: Diane Dillon, absent, Bonnie Howe, yea, Brett Housley, yea.

Resolution No. 2010-025 – Motion was made by Bonnie Howe and seconded by Brett Housley to allow Brett Housley to attend the Ohio Township Association Winter Conference in Columbus on February 17-20, 2010. The Board agreed to reimburse Mr. Housley for his expenses. Upon roll call the vote as follows: Diane Dillon, absent, Bonnie Howe, yea, Brett Housley, yea.

FISCAL OFFICER REPORT

JoAnn gave the Board a staff listing from the Prosecutor’s Office which includes each employee’s function and who to talk call if you have questions.

The Board received a thank you note from Terra Howell from Townhall II thanking them for their time at their meeting on January 12th.
