Everyone stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Jim Mahood, Zoning Inspector, shared with the group an article printed in the Akron Beacon Journal about gaming parlors. Areas in Summit County are in the midst of drafting regulations that would be in line with our current skill-based amusement regulations. When these establishments are not listed in the resolution, they are prohibited. The state will regulate this type of business.
General Aluminum has applied for permits to expand their facility another 30,000 SF. This will also create several local jobs.
Another new business has been conditionally approved for the parcel next door to the post office. Scotts lawn care business from the Cleveland area will occupy the building. They distribute residential and commercial lawn care products.
The scheduled speaker did not show up; therefore the group reviewed the subjects and areas that may be the most immediate on the potential goals for the upcoming months.
The secretary reported on the status of three stalled issues before the trustees. They had been waiting for a clarification from the township’s legal counsel as to wording interpretation on the proposed amendment submitted for approval in January. Also, more discussion is apparently needed to follow-up on the recommendations submitted to provide a potential route for the hike and bike trails through the township and also removing the term ‘designated’ in regard to where to locate future potential park areas.
There will be another joint meeting with trustees, zoning board of appeals, and zoning commission members probably in April. The informal work session is an annual event and attendance is urged. No new alternate members have been appointed yet for this year, although there has been some interest.
Helen Vari made a motion to approve the February 21, 2011 zoning commission meeting as presented. George Tishma seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.
The next regularly scheduled zoning commission is April 18, 2011.
George Tishma made a motion to adjourn. Amanda Lewis seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.
