Chair, AnneMarie Mullenix, called the meeting to order.

Everyone stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Zoning Inspector Jim Mahood informed the group of the upcoming question & answer forum scheduled for Thursday, July 22 at the Town Hall. It’s open to all residents and he’ll be there to respond to zoning issues, complaints, etc. This was also listed on the Internet website for the township and questions can also be sent via e-mail. At this time of year the most common complaints are about abandoned homes having trash and tall grass. Many times the actual owner(s) are not known or the banks could be in other states or they may be at the in-between step of going up for sheriff sale, which takes several months.

Karen Henry reported on her research to begin including hike and bike trails in Rootstown Township to connect to existing trails. She met with Trustee Diane Dillon regarding whether federal grant monies may be available. At this time federal money is pretty much dried up. Mrs. Henry also spoke to Christine Craycroft of the Portage Park District and she has maps, which show the trails and possible places for additions, etc. Ms. Craycroft may also be able to provide other people who may help with possible grants to improve current routes or make new paths. Perhaps Tim Ryan may have information on access to stimulus money. Chair, AnneMarie Mullenix, feels that Ms. Craycroft should be invited to the August 16th Zoning Commission meeting and the group will be able to pursue this endeavor with her help.

Mr. Mahood reported that the trustees have approved a new soccer field at the Gracie Field area and also a new pavilion will be built. The vacant former auto garage on Prospect Street now has new owners and it will be an auto parts store.

At the monthly meeting of the county representatives and the Portage County Regional Planning Commission, work is being done on developing wording for adding regulations on tall grass for nearby townships and this may also be available to be adopted by our township in the near future.

Karen Henry made a motion to approve the June 21, 2010 Zoning Commission meeting minutes as presented. Amanda Lewis seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be August 16th, 2010.

Helen Vari made a motion to adjourn. George Tishma seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.
