Minutes of the Meeting of the Rootstown Township Zoning Commission
August 16, 2010

The Rootstown Township Zoning Commission met in regular session on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Rootstown Town Hall.

Chair, AnneMarie Mullenix, called the meeting to order.

Everyone stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Zoning Inspector Jim Mahood reported that alternate Dan Dillabough has informed the trustees of his intent to step down from the position due to health reasons. It is not known at this time if the trustees will appoint more alternates or wait until the regular timeline at the end of the fiscal year.

Karen Henry announced that a conflict arose for Christine Craycroft, of the Portage Park District, and she couldn’t attend this month’s meeting; however she plans to be at the September meeting. She will bring packets to inform the group of how they have been pursuing the hike and bike trail grants in the past, ideas for suggestions to benefit us in the endeavor of connecting trails, etc.

Mr. Mahood also reported to the group that the question & answer forum held Thursday, July 22 at the Town Hall had a very poor turnout.

There are a few new businesses coming into the township and others looking for buildings that may fit their needs without significant remodeling or variances.

Mr. Mahood meets monthly with the Portage County Regional Planning Commission and liaison representatives from townships and municipalities. They call the group P.R.E.P - Portage Revitalization and Economic Planning. They will highlight what the different areas have to offer in recreation, historical significance, etc. and give links to download information of interest.

Trustees have approved the fencing amendments and are advertising for bids to build a new pavilion at the park.

Karen Henry made a motion to approve the July 19th, 2010 Zoning Commission minutes as presented. Amanda Lewis seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.

The next regularly scheduled Zoning Commission meeting is September 20, 2010.

Amanda Lewis made a motion to adjourn and George Tishma seconded the motion. All ayes were heard.
