Judy Adamson, secretaryChair, AnneMarie Mullenix, called the meeting to order.
Everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mrs. Mullenix asked Zoning Inspector Jim Mahood to give an update to the group on things that might affect the township and citizens. He reported that the Economic Development has asked for support from the township to check into the feasibility and the possibility of getting monies for running a sidewalk from Ravenna on S.R. 44 to Rootstown. The trustees will show their support and the Economic Development Board will try to get a grant to accomplish this connection.
Delphi is officially closed and the property is for sale.
The deadline for registering for the zoning seminar in Cleveland later this month passed and no response was shown. The trustees encourage attendance.
The hike and bike trail issue was up for discussion again. With limited resources and funding and obtaining permission for rights of way, etc. the group feels there may be other things that could be put to the forefront at this time.
Helen Vari made a motion to table the discussion on the connection of the hike and bike trail until funds are available and a more immediate need arises. Amanda Lewis seconded the motion. No voting followed.
More discussion of the whole issue of where to put potential hike and bike trails followed. Mr. Mahood feels there may be a need to specify in advance where to potentially locate such trails and routes. Access through private properties, parking, density of areas, etc. needs to be considered as previously stated in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and the subsequent Addendums priority list. The Portage Park District also has provided information on the current and potential sites for extending routes. As grants are awarded, they verify that the plans are being followed.
After more consideration, Amanda made a motion to rescind the previous motion and come up with a general area for potentially connecting hike and bike routes with other currently designated trails. With Lynn Road being part of the current Buckeye Trail route, the group feels it would be best to utilize this designated area for future potential hike and bike route to connect our area to West Branch, Ravenna and Brimfield.
George Tishma seconded the motion and all ayes were heard. The secretary will forward this information to the Trustees as it addresses another recommended priority in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Addendum of 2004.
George Tishma made a motion to accept the September 20, 2010 Zoning Commission meeting minutes as presented. Helen Vari seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.
The next regularly scheduled Zoning Commission meeting is November 15, 2010. The group would like to continue discussion and forward a possible proposed amendment to eliminate a gray area regarding fencing in conjunction with swimming pool applications. Mrs. Helen Vari also feels the group should adopt text to have out-of-business property owners remove signage within a certain amount of time after closing.
George Tishma made a motion to adjourn. Amanda Lewis seconded the motion and all ayes were heard.
